Delete your Talefern account

Last updated: 24 September 2026

This page explains how to delete your Talefern account — whether you use the Talefern app on iPhone or Android, or our website — and exactly what happens to your data when you do. You can do it whenever you like, and you don't need to give a reason.

In the app or on the website

  1. Sign in to Talefern in the app, or on our website.
  2. Open Account — in the app, it's the Account tab.
  3. Scroll to the bottom, tap Delete my account, and confirm.

Your account is deleted straight away. If you have any unspent stars, we'll show you how many before you confirm, because deleting your account uses them up.

Or ask us by email

If you can't sign in, or you'd rather we did it for you, email hello@talefern.com from the email address your account uses, with “Delete my account” as the subject. Before we delete anything, we'll check the request really comes from you — so we may reply to that address and ask you to confirm. We'll let you know once it's done.

Before you delete: your subscription

If you pay through the App Store or Google Play, deleting your account does not cancel that subscription. Apple or Google will keep charging you until you cancel it with them. Here's how to cancel.

If you subscribed on our website, deleting your account cancels your subscription immediately. It doesn't wait for the end of the period you've paid for, and the unused time isn't refunded automatically — so if you'd like to keep reading until then, cancel first (Account → Manage billing) and delete your account afterwards.

What we delete straight away

When your account is deleted, all of this is removed from Talefern at once:

Links to stories you've shared stop working. Grown-ups you invited as caregivers keep their own Talefern sign-in, but lose access to your children.

What we keep, and why

We keep our own records, with your email address removed, for at least six years, because UK accounting and tax law requires it. Apple, Google, RevenueCat and Stripe keep their records under their own rules.

Backups and logs

Our database is backed up automatically, and those rolling backups are replaced as they age, so anything deleted with your account drops out of them within 30 days. Our server logs expire automatically after 30 days too.

Emails we've already sent you, like stories and sign-in links, stay in your own inbox — we can't reach those. The companies that help us run Talefern (listed in our privacy policy) may keep records of their own, under their own retention rules.

If you're a caregiver

If another parent invited you to help with their children, deleting your account removes your own sign-in and your access to their children. Their children's profiles and stories belong to their account, so they aren't deleted.

Before you go

Deleting can't be undone. If there's a story you'd love to keep, save or print it first.
